Frequently asked questions
We know that seeking additional support for your child or organisation can come with a lot of questions. Hopefully the information below helps, but please do get in touch if you would like to discuss anything further.
How do I know if my child needs tutoring?
Children come to tutoring for many different reasons. Some may need help with a specific area such as reading, writing or maths, while others benefit from additional support to build confidence, motivation or organisation skills.
You might consider tutoring if your child:
-
Is finding parts of learning challenging
-
Has lost confidence in schoolwork
-
Needs extra practice to consolidate skills
-
Would benefit from a calmer, more personalised learning environment
Our approach focuses on building confidence and enjoyment in learning, not just improving academic skills.
Do you support children who are neurodivergent?
Absolutely. We provide a welcoming, inclusive and understanding environment where children are supported as individuals.
We have experience supporting children with a range of needs including autism, dyslexia, ADHD and other learning differences. Sessions are adapted to suit each child’s learning style, strengths and interests so they feel comfortable and able to succeed. We actually use our neuro-affirming approach with all children as we find it benefits everyone, not just those who are neurodivergent.
How quickly will we see progress?
Every child is different, so progress can vary. For some children, the first change parents notice is increased confidence and willingness to engage with learning.
We focus on building strong foundations and positive learning experiences. While academic progress may take time, our goal is to help children develop skills and confidence that support long-term success.
What if my child is anxious about tutoring?
This is very common, and we work hard to make children feel safe, relaxed and welcome.
Sessions are designed to be calm, engaging and positive. We take time to build trust with each child and ensure they feel comfortable before introducing more structured learning activities. Many children quickly realise that sessions are fun, supportive and pressure-free.
Do you provide reports for parents or schools or liaise with the school?
We are happy to share feedback with parents about how sessions are going and the progress your child is making.
Where required, we can also liaise with schools or provide brief written updates to ensure support is joined up and consistent. We have also provided statements to support EHCP and DLA applications.
Do I need to stay during the session?
Parents do not usually need to stay during tutoring sessions. However, if your child feels more comfortable having you nearby initially, we can discuss what works best to help them settle in.
For younger children or first sessions, some parents choose to remain close by until their child feels confident.
Does my child need to bring anything with them?
No, we provide all the resources needed for the session.
If there is something specific you would like us to work on (for example school homework or spelling lists), you are welcome to bring it along. Children are also welcome to bring along their favourite teddy or fidget toy if it helps them.
How long are the tutoring sessions?
Session lengths vary depending on the type of support your child is receiving. Most sessions are 60 minutes long, but we also offer, 30-, 45- and 90-minute sessions. We offer weekly, fortnightly or ad-hoc sessions to meet your needs.
What happens if we can’t make a session?
Unarranged absences - when a child is unable to attend a planned session due to illness, the session will be re-arranged to a mutually convenient day/time. We ask that you provide as much notice as possible. In the case of group sessions, these cannot be re-arranged.
Arranged absences – we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for arranged absences such as holidays, sporting events, parties etc. The session will be re-arranged to a mutually convenient day/time. In the case of group sessions, these cannot be re-arranged.
How do I pay for my tutoring sessions?
Most of our families, opt to be invoiced monthly and pay via BACS. Invoices will usually be sent out 1 week before the start of a new month. Some families opt to pay weekly, via BACS or cash.
